Honestly, wtf were we THINKING? SIX Livestreams in three weeks, with full Substack write-ups and YouTube chaptering and descriptions added, all while editing and posting our usual episodes and, oh yeah, we’d never Livestreamed before.

But whatevs, we’re amazing, and our guests were extra-specially amazing, so here we are. SOUND OFF!

The Final Two

Travis Gibb
of
Orange Cone Productions
is chatting with us today, 9/21, 5pm PT. It should be noted: Travis is the mastermind and ringleader of this whole “Rising Suns Hospice” semiverse shinola, so this one should be informative! Plus, his comic is like John Carpenter married Jeremy Saulnier, so you’re going to want to hear about his comic, too.

David Byrne is swooping in on Friday, 9/22 @ 5pm PT for our grand finale! David is an ex-publisher of Scout Comics and now a part of the Metal Ninja Studios team (who we featured just a few weeks back!)

What is Metal Ninja Studios? Do Ninjas Even Drink?

The Most Exciting New Service in Comics We had the immense pleasure of interviewing Joel Rodriguez, founder of Metal Ninja Studios, and creator of the comic Dusk County Chronicles, the final issue of which is now on Kickstarter.

Jamie Primack’s Livestream Recording

Here’s the second livestream of the six, now available for viewing anytime.

Link to Jaime’s Hospice Kickstarter - think Nancy Drew meets John Constantine!

The Wines

Dallas’ Pairing:

Something approachable but with a bite, Dallas’ pick was in the ballpark of Jamie’s own wine pairing below!

Dave’s Pairing:

The heft of Cab Sauv, with the green pepper zing and herbal notes of Cab Franc - approachable, significant, and zesty. A Trader Joe’s label, so only available there. But super affordable!

Jamie’s Comic and Wine Pairing

BLAME! by Tsutomu Nihei

Paired With this Calatayud Garnacha:

Frank Martin’s Livestream Recording

Here’s the third livestream of the six, now available for viewing anytime.

Link to Frank's Hospice Kickstarter - think Hannibal meets The Menu! I mean, COME ON.

The Wines

Dave’s Pairing:

“Appassimento” is a process of partially dehydrating/”Raisening” the grapes before pressing. If you want to spend big, find an “Amarone” - the tippty top of the appassimento wines. But this budget Trader Joe’s import from Puglia was a perfect compliment - fruity and sweet on the palate, but with herbaceous and gamey notes throughout. Just right for a cannibal story. :)

Dallas’ Pairing:

A superb representation of French Malbec from Cahors, dark fruit, minerality, and a bite of bitterness.

Frank’s Comic and Beer Pairing

Sandman Volume 6: Fables & Reflections, a somewhat standalone volume of shorter tales from the realm of dreams.

The Beer

Michael Watson’s Livestream Recording

Here’s the fourth livestream of the six, now available for viewing anytime.

Link to Michael’s (Freestyle Komics) Hospice Kickstarter - MMA meets demonic horror!

Be sure to follow Freestyle Komics on Tiktok!

The Wines

Dallas’ Pairing

Bright and zippy Marlborough New Zealand Sauv Blanc to pair with Freestyle Komics’ team’s manga-esque entry, this wine scored two 95 points from critics, so you know (well, not that scores are dependable, but at least it got the score from TWO different critics!) you’re in good hands!

Dave’s Pairing

Hannah Nicole Merlot usually retails for $42 per bottle. But the 2019 for business reasons unknown, gave the lot to Grocery Outlet, who are selling it for $6.99 per bottle!!! It’s beyond worth it for that price. If you spot it, nab it!

Merlot is the poster child for crowd-pleasing reds that still contain heft and character. It 100% paired with Michael’s MMA-action themed Hospice comic.

Michael’s Comic and Beverage Pairing

My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi

Tahitian Treat (from Keurig Dr Pepper, essentially a carbonated Hawaiian Punch, though the formula may differ - made from the same company, though!)

Okay, sheezus, I’m gonna nap for a week when these are over. Two more to go! Join us online today and tomorrow for the finales!

Thank you for reading Wine and Comics. This post is public so feel free to share it.
