SAVE THE DATE: Wine and Movie Pairing Night in Los Angeles - NEAR DARK (1987)
October 31st, 7:00pm. at Curated Wine Shop. Plus: short film TERROIR (2025)!
October 31st, 7:00pm, at Curated Wine Shop in mid-city Los Angeles. (Follow them on IG!)
This will be a LIVE Wine and Movie Pairing. A 2oz tasting pour to pair with the short film, followed by a full glass of another wine to pair with the feature. Additional glasses and/or other wine may be purchased as well - it’s a wine shop, after all!
Think of this as a Live edition of a Vintertainment podcast episode - we’re going to intro each film, give you some fun facts you (probably) didn’t know about them, introduce the wines and why we paired them, and then away we go with actually watching the films and enjoying the wines.
The Itinerary
7pm, Short Film - TERROIR (2025)
Written, Directed, and Produced by Casey Rogerson, we’re proud to be screening this film witch is still on its festival run so unavilable anywhere else!
An absurdist, blackly comedic horror short that is perfect for a screening at a wine shop/tasting room. About a Pinot that is to die for. So expect an unexpected Pinot for a pairing!
7:30pm, Feature Film - Near Dark (1987)
Direted by Kathryn Bigelow and Written by her and Eric Red.
Bigelow is releasing her latest film on October 24th on Netflix! So let’s celebrate by watching her first solo outing as a director, and one of the best vampire movies ever made: NEAR DARK.
Starring the whole supporting cast of James Cameron’s ALIENS (well, almost, Michael Biehn turned down a role because he “didn’t get” the script) - Lance Henrikson, Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein, joined by a young Adrian Pasdar and Jenny Wright.
Originally conceived to be a Western, but reconfigured to a vampire movie because they couldn’t find financing for a Western! An independent film, it suffered at the box office due to studio-backed LOST BOYS coming out just 2 months prior. But folks, this is objectively the better movie.
Not currently streaming for free anywhere in America (and possibly not streaming anywhere at all?) we’ll be showing a Blu ray copy for the screening.
Paired with a deep but balanced red wine by a female winemaker out of Portugal in partnership with a South African winemaker, a blend of two influences just like the movie, and in celebration of female creators. With a boldness and bite to match the horror. And a label name that is perfect. (Trust us.)
We’ll wrap with a touch of mingling and discussing the films, finishing the wine, before we all head home. The shop usually closes at 9pm, but will stay open late to accomodate.
Join us the Holloween Night is you’re in the Los Angeles area!
