Paid Subscription Update!
New low pricing, Pairing Driectories, Dave guests on someone else's podcast, and our 3rd Wine Conversation kicks off!
Hello, everyone!
Now that we’ve officially rebranded as "Vintertainment”, it’s time to pause briefly for an update on paid subscriptions here on Substack.
It’s increasingly difficult to throw $5 to every single writer, creator, and voice worth supporting online - we know, we wish we had the personal income to support twice the number of writers than we currently do!
So in order to help folks consider us as one of their many voices they support, we’re lowering the regular monthly cost to just $2, or you can subscribe annually for $20. (Actually $19.60, because we had to calculate a % discount that was the same for both the monthly and the annual - Substack does not make this shit easy!)1
Paid Subscribers get access to uncut interviews, paid only chats, paid only polls, and our PAIRING DIRECTORIES which track ALL of our wine and entertainment pairings, broken down by category. Updated weekly!
But if you’re made of money - so not like us, or most of anyone reading this - you can still aim to be a Big Spender by becoming a "PRODUCE-ER” (get it?) of the Substack and podcast!
Produce-ers get a shoutout in EVERY episode of the pod, plus you get to commission one episdode per season. YOU pick the topic, and you can also pick the wines, that we’ll then have to get our hands on, to try them on the episode.

Wine Conversation the 3rd
kicks off our 3rd “Wine Conversation” today! We tackle our first truly controversial subject that can get wine people a bit heated - “Old World vs. New World: A relevant distinction or an outdated classification?”
I’m up next, so expect my repsonse to Vicky to drop early next week!
Then 5 additional writers will be adding their 2 cents as well.
Guest Podcast: BABY Secret of the Lost Legend
I got to guest on someone ELSE’S podcast last week!
I joined Fanbase Weekly host Bryant Dillon and Craig Miller (marketing consultant on Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend and original Director of Fan Relations at Lucasfilm! Also writer of Star Wars Memories and More Movie Memories!) to discuss this flick for its 40th Anniversary!
BABY is a movie y’all need in your life but didn’t know. Released by Disney’s Touchstone Pictures in 1985, it’s bizarrely adult while also plainly being aimed at kids with its cute plastic dino character that waddle around the screen like an oversized puppy. This film rests in that weird 80’s adult/kids sweet spot that HOWARD THE DUCK, RETURN TO OZ, TEMPLE OF DOOM, and GREMLINS all did.
Listen to me blather on with Bryant and Craig!
Then go watch BABY, which is available on Archive.org
Wine Pairing (because of COURSE there’s a wine pairing!)
Celebrate the cast and crew surviving their many months filming in Africa by nabbing yourself an African wine! But get your head out of South Africa, that ain’t REAL Africa ;P
Instead, journey with me to Morocco, to the up and coming wine region of Zaër. Winemaking history there dates back to the French occupation in 1933, but it is within the last 30 years that they have started to focus on elevating their farming practices and wine quality.
Farmed organically, La Ferme Rouge's Le Rouge Cacher (Kosher!) is a blend of Caignan and Syrah. It’s a perfect hybrid of the “adult” flavors of an elegant, delicate wine with those of a “kid friendly” bramble berry jamminess. It walks this fine line much like the movie does, and is affordable and kosher to boot! (~$20 USD in most places)
If you are one of our current paid subscribers, we’ll be messaging you shortly! If you want the new lower pricing, you’ll need to cancel your current subscription, then resubscribe under the new pricing. Substack does now allow us to manually bestow this upon you. Like we said, they make this shit hard!
